August 28, 2026 | What I Once Dared to Imagine Now Needs Clearer Judgment
Tonight, I opened a book I had written before, and when I saw those words, I could not help laughing. I really was bold at that time. It felt as if I dared to think about everything and place many things together. AI, remote coordination, data security, home devices, work pressure, labor change, physical and mental states, love, culture, and new ideas for humanity around the world — looking back now, some parts feel naive, while others seem to have touched certain shadows of the future very early.
I laughed not because I thought my earlier self was completely wrong, but because I could feel how much momentum I had then. Without some boldness, many things would never begin. In the early stage of exploration, a person may open many possibilities at once, imagining that the future could move in this direction or that one, that technology could connect many things, and that human life could be understood again. That state is a little like a child looking at the world. The boundaries are not yet very clear, but the feelings are strong, and the imagination feels real.
Looking at it again now, I can feel that I have changed. In the past, I was more likely to believe in possibilities. Now, I care more about boundaries. In the past, when I saw a direction, I would wonder whether it could be connected. Now, when I see a direction, I first ask whether it may bring misunderstanding, responsibility, risk, or uncontrollable consequences. In the past, I dared to write many future images. Now, I know more clearly that something should not be treated as achievable simply because it can be imagined, and language should not turn possibility into established fact.
This is not a rejection of my earlier self. On the contrary, I feel that early boldness is precious. Many people do not dare to imagine, do not dare to write, and do not dare to bring out the things that have not yet fully formed inside them. But if a person never allows themselves to go through immaturity, risk, exaggeration, or incompleteness, it is difficult to grow their own judgment. Thought is not stable from the beginning. It often first appears through strong feelings, unclear directions, and imperfect expressions, before being reorganized by reality, experience, mistakes, and responsibility.
Seeing the old book tonight helped me understand this change more clearly. My earlier self did not lack judgment; it was simply not as clear as it is now. At that time, I wanted more to express the possibility of the future and write down the changes I sensed. Now, I care more about how an idea may be understood once it enters the public world, whether it may be misread, whether it may be treated as a promise, whether it may cross real-world boundaries, and whether it may cause people to ignore professional responsibility and human judgment.
This is also where a person grows. Early imagination is like fire; it can ignite a direction. Later judgment is like a boundary; it prevents the fire from burning oneself or others. Fire without boundaries is dangerous. Boundaries without fire make a person cold. Perhaps what a person truly needs is not to completely deny the earlier bold self, but to learn, over time, how to let boldness and responsibility exist together.
I also thought about how people sometimes laugh when they see their earlier writing. There is an unpolished sincerity in it, and also a kind of courage that did not yet know its limits. When a person is younger, more urgent, and more willing to believe, the things they write can carry a direct force. They may not be accurate, and they may not be mature, but they prove that the person was truly thinking, truly searching, and truly trying to speak about the world they saw.
These traces matter. They remind me that many questions did not appear only today. In the past, I expressed them through more intuitive, bold, and mixed language. Now, I understand them again through language that is clearer, more restrained, and more bounded. In the past, what I wrote was a sense of the future. Now, what I write is judgment about that sense of the future. In the past, I opened more possibilities. Now, I identify more carefully. In the past, I asked, “What else could be possible?” Now, I ask, “What can be trusted, what needs to stop, and what must remain under human responsibility?”
Tonight’s feeling was light, but also real. It was as if I had suddenly met my earlier self, seeing her sitting there, writing very seriously about things that now seem a little funny, yet not completely unfamiliar. I will not mock her. Without that bold self, there would not be the more cautious self I have now. A person does not mature suddenly. A person first believes, first takes risks, first makes mistakes, first writes things down, and only after many encounters with reality slowly learns judgment.
This also helps me understand again that human judgment is not complete from the beginning. It grows through time. A person may first have impulse, and later boundaries; first imagination, and later responsibility; first strong expression, and later clear confirmation. Judgment does not mean overturning the past completely. It means knowing, on the foundation of the past, what can remain, what must be revised, and what should only stay as a trace of that time.
Today, I do not want to reinterpret the old book as some great prediction, nor do I want to use it as evidence to prove anything. It feels more like a photograph inside time. At that time, I dared to imagine. Now, I know more clearly how to judge. At that time, I believed in connection. Now, I see boundaries more clearly. At that time, I wanted to write the future into language. Now, I understand more deeply that the future cannot rely only on imagination. It also needs responsibility, reality, and human confirmation.
The question I am left with today is this: when a person looks back and sees their earlier bold and immature expressions, how can they avoid denying the self who once dared to imagine, while also preventing early imagination from crossing the judgment boundaries that later became clear?
